Learn to blend 2, 3 and 4 letter words with ease and success

Children learning to read need basic skills taught in sequence to read easily and accurately. Letters of the alphabets are pictures of sounds and teaching children how to connect these sound pictures to work together in words is phenomenal.

At the Learn to Blend programme, we will teach your child to connect these sound pictures to sounds through effective combination of Synthetic Phonics (SP) and Phonemic Awareness (PA) using our effective teaching methods of decoding, segmenting and blending strategy without the forced memorisation of the entire word. Your child will learn the single most important skill needed to read i.e. “BLENDING”. Blending is the process where one takes individual sounds of a word, stretch it seamlessly, put it back together to form the complete word.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We've got A's for your Q's

What is the prerequisite to join the programme?

Your child is expected to know the 26 sounds of the letters of the alphabet. While we will still go over these sounds repeatedly in the lessons, a firm knowledge of all the sounds of the 26 letters is a requirement. Being able to write is a benefit. If unable to meet this requirement, your child can join our 12-week Beginner Reading Programme where we will teach the sounds from

scratch.

What age group is this programme suitable for?

The programme is suitable for children ages 3½-5 years who already know their sounds but struggling to blend 2, 3, 4 letter words in order to read. Children in Nursery, Reception or Year 1 pupil who struggle to blend can attend.

How do you deliver the online programme?

We use Vedamo Virtual Classroom, an interactive online teaching platform. Our tutors can write and explain the concept during tutoring on a virtual whiteboard. The classes are interactive live lessons, and pupils can communicate with the tutor on the platform. Lesson notes and homework which will be posted to you if you are located in the UK. Participants abroad receive electronic copies which can be printed. Parents can scan the homework and upload it to our homework portal so that the tutor can have a look.

Can I cancel after booking?

All sale is final. Our online or centre-based programmes are Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable. Parents cannot cancel the programme at any point in time before or in the middle of the programme as we are unable to offer the place to another child.

How do I register and pay?

You can pay by card here.

How is this programme different from the Beginner reading programme?

Our Beginner reading programme is a 12-week programme where your child does not need to know their sound or able to write, we teach your child to identify, write all the sounds of the alphabet and then proceed to teaching them how to connect these sounds to read 3, 4 letter words. This programme is a 6-week programme to support children with the working knowledge of the sounds but struggle to blend and read 2, 3, 4 letters words.

Are the tutors qualified teachers?

We recruit tutors who are graduates and early years teachers, however we train them to use our scientifically proven reading method that combines Synthetic Phonics and Phonemic Awareness. We have excellent experience in teaching children to read in a short period of time using our sequential teaching strategy.

How do you deliver the centre-based programme?

Pupils are required to come to the Dartford or Southgate centre 9-11am or 11:30-1:30pm with their stationary, water and snack. Lesson notes and all programme materials will be provided to the children and are delivered by our trained tutor.

What is the technical requirement to attend the online class?

  • Reliable and steady internet connection

  • Laptop with microphone and camera

  • ‘Google Chrome’ browser application installed on your computer

  • Quiet room

What is the size of the class?

We operate a small class with a ratio of 1:6 pupils online and 1:8 pupils at the centre
